<p>“我未来的路该怎么走？”这是我大一时常常问自己的问题。刚从高考的后劲中走出来，面对一个意想不到的录取方向和如同白纸的大学生活，我开始不断在未来道路的选择和实践中徘徊。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>面对一个相对纯粹的海洋生物学科，在大学四年专业知识不断扩充和实习实践交错进行的学习生涯下，我慢慢看到这个领域不同的发展方向。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>那时，身边的同学都在为保研和考研做准备，而我，却深感国内的学术氛围和发展路径不完全适合我。<span style="color: #0086d1;">关于我所学习的专业，我一直期待与另一个领域的结合，如生物医学工程、生物信息学、可持续金融、ESG等等</span>，是否有一个更广阔的平台，可以让我在学术和职业上有更多的选择和挑战？</p>
<p> </p>
<p>于是，留学的念头悄然萌生。</p>
<p> </p>
<h1><strong>放弃实验室深造选择留学</strong></h1>
<p> </p>
<p>说起留学的决定，回想起来，真正让我下定决心的契机，来自一次大二暑期至大三的实验室经历。在那一整个学年中，我有幸进入了一位非常知名的导师的实验室，参与了两项科研项目和一篇论文的完成。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>我与实验室的师兄师姐们进行了深入的交流，也切身体会了国内研究生的日常生活和具体的项目内容。这些宝贵的经验让我受益匪浅，但实验室每天充实的日程中，我逐渐发现自己似乎对与生命科学相关的湿实验的科研意愿并不强烈。</p>

<p>在这些日子里，我找准机会与带我的教授进行深入交流，谈到自己对于学术未来的困惑时，教授热心地给予了我建议，他在认可我并愿意给予我机会留在实验室发展的同时，也鼓励我去尝试更开放的学术环境，甚至为我写了一篇极为诚恳的推荐信强烈推荐我去申请国外的研究生项目。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>教授的鼓励和他自身的经历让我认识到，留学不仅仅是一个学术的选择，更是一个人生的选择。<span style="color: #0086d1;">在这次交流之后，我决定放弃在本校实验室深造的机会，迈出了留学的第一步。</span></p>
<p> </p>
<h1><strong>死磕绩点和专业实习</strong></h1>
<p> </p>
<p>留学申请并非一帆风顺。好在我从大一入学开始就不断地为准备留学而排兵布阵。面对当时自身成绩不突出，甚至有几门课程因为基础不牢而出现挂科和擦线及格的情况，我没有气馁，而是坚定选择重修课程，通过二次学习，死磕难点，换来第二次较为顺眼的分数，把之前的惨淡覆盖。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>因为大一的“潇洒”，我利用大二和大三整整四个学期，<span style="color: #0086d1;">基本将大一时的必修课重修了个遍</span>，把那些极难的专业课提升至80分以上，思政课能提再提，其他专业课程保持跟进，保证每年都有奖学金的名额。随着短板逐渐减少，均分也慢慢好看了起来。同时，我也保持了每学期多个通识课程的学习，在这些课程上取得高分也能一定程度上弥补专业课的不足。</p>

<p>在校生活中，我参加了多个学科竞赛和科研项目，保证每个寒暑假都有一段科研经历的积累。我利用在实验室切身参与的项目参加全国生命科学竞赛，撰写论文，同时有意围绕目标院校开设的特色专业而专门参加一些领域的比赛，有的放矢。</p>

<p>例如，考虑到新加坡国立大学理学院开设的生物多样性保护与可持续发展专业以后有机会往ESG方向发展，我组建团队参加了由联合国教科文组织和清华大学共同主办的青年气候变化与减灾创投马拉松，并在“社区主导的生物多样性保护与可持续发展”赛道中斩获佳绩；</p>

<p>由于新国立的工程学院开设的生物医学工程专业和理学院开设的生物技术专业的对口就业方向是生物技术或者生物器械公司，我又找机会进入了广州某上市生物技术公司实习，积累宝贵经验，同时参加了校内的大创项目，在环境和藻类的相关领域增长眼界；</p>

<p>考虑到南洋理工大学的生物医学数据科学专业比较看中计算机学科的基础，我也为此申请了人工智能与数字经济广东省实验室的实习，也参加了亚太地区大学生数学建模竞赛和其他建模比赛作为经历补充等等。</p>
<p> </p>
<h1><strong>没有保底！放手一搏新加坡</strong></h1>
<p> </p>
<p>决定留学之后，我就开始着手准备申请。由于我本身在广州长大，对香港地区实在不太感兴趣，而且认为英国的就业环境逐渐下滑，且之前有过旅游体验，我将目标瞄准了新加坡。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>我申请了新加坡国立大学（NUS）和南洋理工大学（NTU），这两所学校的排名，学术氛围和实习机会让我很心动。由于地区限制，我没法选择保底学校，只计划申请新加坡两所和帝国理工（IC）。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>申请的过程并不轻松，因为不考虑保底，让我的申请压力非常大，尤其是在雅思成绩上，我认为是我申请过程的最大短板。雅思的首考在大三下学期，第一次考试只考了6分，听力和口语的爆雷让我心情十分低落。</p>
<p> </p>

<p>然而，看到上届学长相同语言的成功申请案例，给我留下了一丝侥幸心态。很快，新国立的提前批申请在暑假到来，我天真的认为在与直系学长的背景同类比较中，我能够稳稳拿到生物技术和生物多样性保护的offer，<span style="color: #0086d1;">但是提前批的结果给了我“当头一棒”</span>。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>在复盘时，申请老师对比了一些本校本届成功案例，认为是雅思分数拖了后腿。尽管我给NUS招生办打了电话，得到不需要刷分和再等等的确切信息后，还是决定在十月中旬开启第二轮的雅思备考。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>但是第二次认真努力的结果却是听力和口语的二次爆雷，我在平时练习都从未出现过的低分却在印在了正式成绩单上，那段时间确实无比焦虑，在拿到成绩后的第一时间进行了复议。</p>
<p> </p>
<h1><strong>终于等到NUS开奖</strong></h1>
<p> </p>
<p>在还没缓过来，重新投入屠雅状态之前，11月22日悄然到来了——那是新国立设计与工程学院第一批offer的开奖时间。我记得在那一天，我几乎每隔十分钟都要登录一次官网，查询申请状态，无一例外都是Submitted，社交媒体上大家的状态也都没有任何动静。<span style="color: #0086d1;">下午四点，在我以为今天又要没有动静而结束的时候，微信突然传来了舍友的提醒“工学院开奖了！”</span></p>

<p>直至今日，那时内心的紧张和手抖仍让我记忆犹新，在没有任何延迟的登入后，“Biomedical Engineering --- offer made”几个字印入眼帘。offer来的如此突然，就在我还在紧张备考之前，一瞬间内心的压力得到巨大的释放。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>我一直认为BME是我申请的所有专业中bar最高的一个，原因也是来源于观察之前的录取案例，我几乎不敢相信自己能够在第一批无面试就拿到了工程学院的录取，不久后雅思复议成功的邮件也如约来到邮箱，幸运的感觉也让我更加坚信，努力和谋划总会有回报。</p>

<p>那时，我心中有着多个选择。新国立的offer让我既兴奋又有些犹豫，毕竟这是一所世界顶尖的大学，尤其是工程与设计学院，在业界声誉斐然。生物医学工程从专业上也非常符合我对复合型工科的向往。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>但是在深入了解课程设置后，我发现NUS的bme专业偏向材料学和医疗器械，不是我更想学的电学；且专业跨度过大，课程更偏向研究型，可能需要读到博士层次才会有更多选择。我预感自己可能会学得非常吃力，拿不到高的成绩导致不利于就业或者读博。</p>
<p> </p>
<h1><strong>为了就业选择南洋理工</strong></h1>
<p> </p>
<p>然而，在不久后我又收到南洋理工大学的生物医学数据科学offer时，我的内心产生了明显的倾向性。南洋理工也具有很强的学术氛围，尤其在数据科学、人工智能和计算机等前沿领域的优势更大。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>最重要的是，该专业为南洋理工和新加坡科技局合办的专业，每年只招30-50人，相比大类招生的专业而言培养方案更加精细。还为研究生提供至少6到7个月的各种可供选择的实习或者实验室科研机会（前几届中包含麦肯锡、新加坡科技局的实习计划），无论是未来选择继续科研还是就业，都可以在这个专业的学习中为自己作出详细的规划。并且，回国后该专业的教育部认证为数据科学大类，有良好的就业支持系统。这让我开始倾向于选择南洋理工，尽管新国立的offer让我非常心动。</p>
<p> </p>
<p><span style="color: #0086d1;">最终，我交了南洋理工的留位费，确认了这份offer。</span>固然放弃一个做了四年梦的名校offer实在困难，固然新国立的排名和声誉让人心动，但南洋理工更为充实的实习机会和就业条件让我决定选择它。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>回头看这段申请的过程，心中充满了感慨。最初，在申请过程中我并不顺利，甚至一度觉得自己会错过机会，尤其是新国立的offer迟迟未到，那时我甚至有些绝望，觉得自己可能会因为雅思成绩和背景而被拒绝。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>那段时间，我经常在床上躺到凌晨两点才睡着，甚至开始怀疑自己做出的决定是否正确。然而，最后的结果让我意识到，录取并不是完全取决于成绩或背景，有时也需要一点点运气，但是如果做好了充足的准备，迎合项目去提高自己的匹配度，想要的offer会在揭榜的第一时间躺在你的邮箱里。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>回想整个申请过程，我最大的收获是学会了如何在压力下保持冷静，如何在遇到困难时坚持自己的选择。或许这跟考研有些类似，像在一个漆黑的房间里洗衣服，我们不知道衣服洗得如何了，只能拼命努力，抓取一切可能的机会，不断提升自己的综合实力。在offer雨到来的那一刻，就是天亮检验成果的时候。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>对于那些正在为留学而努力的学弟学妹们，我想说：留学是一个持久战，需要具体的围绕确切目标作出计划，保持耐心，抓住每一个可以提升自己的机会。最终，无论结果如何，自己走过的每一步都会成为未来成功的基石。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>在这里，我也想给正在准备留学申请的同学们送上一些小小的建议。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>1. 首先，要尽早开始准备，留学申请是一个长期积累的过程，早早规划可以让你从容不迫地面对每一个阶段。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>2. 其次，成绩固然重要，但软背景同样不可忽视。学术竞赛、实习经验、语言成绩等，都是提升自身竞争力的有效方式。</p>
<p> </p>
<p>3. 最重要的是，保持一颗坚持的心。申请过程中难免会遇到挫折，但希望你要不放弃，坚持自己的目标，梦校的offer终将属于你。</p>
<p> </p>
